History
Award-winning multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Chris Barry founded Grass Mud Horse alongside drummer Will Wyld. Together they formed the band's original lineup, collaborating with a variety of musicians to build the huge, energetic sound that has become their trademark.
Celtic punk thrives on audience connection, and Grass Mud Horse has earned a reputation for electrifying live performances that seamlessly blend driving punk energy with traditional Celtic folk. That same spontaneity carries into the band's recordings, capturing the excitement and authenticity of their stage shows.
China Years
Much of the acoustic EP was recorded during the 2020 lockdown while Chris was living in Inner Mongolia, China. Although China may seem an unlikely home for Celtic punk, Grass Mud Horse continued creating music during one of the most challenging periods for live performers.
The band toured throughout China and appeared at the online Celtic punk festival One Night Stand, performing virtually alongside some of the genre's most respected acts.
Canada & A New Chapter
Following Chris's move to Canada, Grass Mud Horse was reformed with musicians from Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Canada. This international lineup brought new energy to the project and returned the band to the stage.
Since relocating, Grass Mud Horse has performed extensively throughout Ontario, becoming regular performers at the Irish Harp Pub in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Doc Magilligan's in Niagara Falls and The Dublin Stout Irish Pub in St. Catharines. Grass Mud Horse has also appeared on the main stage at the Niagara Falls Irish Festival in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Christopher Ian Barry
Vocals, Banjo, Tin Whistle, Guitar
"Chris" founded Grass Mud Horse, whilst living in China. He's from a Liverpool-Irish family. Chris is a multi-instrumentalist, award-winning songwriter and actor.
Paddy Treacy
Guitar, Vocals
Paddy hails from Clonfert in the Republic of Ireland. He is a co-founder of both Irish Music Niagara & The Niagara Falls Irish Festival.
Melody Van Schaik
Bass, Vocals, Harp
Melody is from St. Catharines Canada. She is an extremely talented bassist, and also sings and plays the harp!
Eddie Maunders
Guitar, Vocals
Eddie is from Cheddar in the UK. Eddie has a secret talent for fixing and making instruments.
